Meet the instructors

Meet instructors outside of ASSC main office where you will be briefed and issued your sailing kit and the instructors will show you the location of the changing rooms, toilets, lockers and drying rooms. (See notes below re clothing and equipment)

There is a cafeteria onsite to purchase lunch if required and there is plenty of room for groups to sit and enjoy their packed lunch whilst enjoying the amazing views of the harbour.

Afternoon sessions commence

What to bring and other essential info

Included in your course cost is the use of our wetsuits, buoyancy aids, helmets and spray tops. Students will need to bring with them suitable footwear (Close toed footwear) (old trainers or wetsuit boots), swimwear (for under wetsuits) and shorts and T shirts, finally a towel is essential. A warm change of clothes for afterwards is also advisable. Other useful items not to forget are a water bottle (there are water fountains onsite), sun cream, sun hat and a waterproof camera. There are lockers available however we look after personal possessions belonging to the group. *RYA Books – If you already have a log book we would kindly ask you to bring it with you on your first day and hand it to your instructor. If you do not have a log book and would like to purchase one we do have them available for sale at our centre. A log book is yours to keep and all sailing qualifications gained at an RYA recognised training centre will be logged.

The perfect introductory course for anyone wanting to experience sailing for the first time. Learn the basics of this fantastic sport over 2 days with our excellent RYA qualified instructors. Over the course of the 2 days you will learn basic but essential skills to get you started, learning how to understand and control a boat on and off the water. Not only are we based at the National Sailing Academy in Weymouth, home of the London 2012 Olympic Sailing events, we are a centre of excellence with some of the widest and newest ranges of kit in the country. We provide all of the specialist kit needed for the course and select boats especially for you and at the end of your course you receive an RYA sailing qualification. This is the first step of many into the world of sailing.

Julian Forde

Julian ‘Jules’ Forde has been with us since 2015 and took on the role of Senior Instructor for the 2016 season. He heads up our ‘Young Leaders’ programme where we take young sailors and help them to become Assistant Instructors.
